Stories from the Museum Storage

Stories from the Museum Storage is an original video podcast produced by the National Museum of Modern Art (NMMU), launched in 2024 by curator Marta Radman, Head of the Collection of Art from 1990 to the Present.

Filmed in the authentic setting of the Museum’s storage facilities, spaces normally inaccessible to the public, the series brings together artists, curators, art historians, critics, theorists, museum directors and collectors to explore works from the NMMU collection, the circumstances of their creation, their reception and their broader artistic, social and institutional contexts. Its subjects range from the Museum’s history and Croatian modern and contemporary art to individual artistic practices, exhibition projects and international collaborations, combining scholarly perspectives with personal experiences, memories and previously undocumented accounts.

The project aims to make the Museum’s artistic heritage accessible to a wider audience while building an audiovisual archive of knowledge and experiences relevant to understanding Croatian art. Episodes, typically lasting 45 to 60 minutes, are published on the NMMU YouTube channel, with shorter excerpts shared across the Museum’s social media platforms. Filming, editing and documentary photography are credited to Tomislav Paviša.

The first 12 episodes were produced with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, as part of the Programmes Encouraging Audience Development in Culture in the Republic of Croatia. Subsequent episodes are funded by the NMMU. A total of 20 episodes are scheduled for release by the end of 2026.
