Following its premiere presentation in 2025 at the Museum of Fine Arts in Split, and subsequently at AK Gallery in Koprivnica, Brač-based artist Tino Vuković will present his series Stories from My Garden to the Zagreb audience from 9 July to 30 August in the eponymous exhibition at Josip Račić Gallery.
The exhibition features thirteen selected mixed-media works created in 2024. According to the exhibition's curator, Marta Radman, the elements of the garden do not function as depictions of landscape but rather as points of departure for paintings that move between recognisable motifs and painterly signs. It is precisely within this spectrum—from engaging, familiar imagery to almost abstract structures—that the distinctive character of Vuković's series emerges. Radman also notes that the square format further underscores this relationship between measure and playfulness. The square may call to mind a garden bed, a plot of land, the pictorial frame, or the legacy of geometric abstraction, yet in Vuković’s paintings it never settles into strict formal order. Grass, flowers, bulbs, fruits, handwritten inscriptions, and humour all find their way into the composition.
