The Linocut exhibition by distinguished Croatian printmaker Nevenka Arbanas was opened on March 5 at the Josip Račić Gallery. On this occasion, the guests were welcomed by the Director of the National Museum of Modern Art, Branko Franceschi, while the exhibited works were discussed by the exhibition curator, NMMU museum advisor Ivana Rončević Elezović PhD, and the artist Nevenka Arbanas. In her address, Rončević Elezović, PhD, who has followed Nevenka Arbanas’s work for many years, reflected on the tradition of presenting the artist’s most recent explorations within. the program of the National Museum of Modern Art’s Josip Račić Gallery. She emphasized that the Leaf cycle was inaugurated and first presented to the public in the same venue, where—through preparations for the exhibitions Leaves (2010) and Memories (2014)—it gradually acquired its now recognizable contours, shaped through the progressive articulation of content within the artist’s creative process. She added that, following this tradition, Nevenka Arbanas is once again announcing, precisely at the Račić Gallery, a new expressive step that synthesizes her entire body of work to date. The Zagreb cultural public has the opportunity to view recent works from the poetic-graphic portfolio Impressions by Nevenka Arbanas and Marko Grčić, as well as large-format linocuts by Nevenka Arbanas inspired by the portfolio, until March 29.
The exhibition has been realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the City Office for Culture and Civil Society of the City of Zagreb. It is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue in Croatian and English, published by the National Museum of Modern Art, with a foreword by Ivana Rončević Elezović PhD. Graphic design by Ana Zubić.
