The Adriatic Coast in the Works of Croatian Modernists
Dr. Snježana Pintarić, long-time director of the Museum of Contemporary Art and a renowned expert in 20th-century and contemporary painting, will deliver a lecture on Croatian artists who, from the mid-19th century to the present day, have captured the motifs of the Adriatic coast on canvas—creating emblematic images of our coastal towns, islands, and seascapes.
Croatian modernists interpret these themes in fresh and distinctive ways, characterized by a departure from traditional realist representation, a focus on the subjective experience of landscape, and a bold exploration of form and color. As many of these artists remain under-recognized by the general public despite their vital role within our cultural and national heritage, this lecture aims to spotlight their contributions and reaffirm their significance in the history of Croatian landscape painting.
