📢 Programme of the National Museum of Modern Art on the Occasion of International Museum Day 2025
✨ ✨ ✨
“Museums for Education and Research: Visions of Change – From Heritage to the Future”
May 16, starting at 1 PM
Josip Račić Gallery (Margaretska 3, Zagreb)
NMMU Oktogon (Ilica 5, Zagreb)
The programme begins with a visit to the exhibition "Georges Papazoff – From the Gueorgui Vassilev Collection – 90 Years Later" at the Josip Račić Gallery
where visitors will have the opportunity to discover the work of this significant European avant-garde artist and reflect on the role of historical heritage in today’s world.
Through observation and discussion, questions will be raised about continuity and change in art, the importance of preserving heritage, and the possibilities of reinterpreting classical works.
The programme continues with a visit to the NMMU Oktogon, the Museum’s new exhibition space, and the current exhibition "Y–Z: Construction Site of a New Generation"
Participants will take part in a themed guided tour and educational workshop Construction Site of the Future, focused on contemporary art and its role in shaping identity, space, and societies in transition.
Led by the exhibition curator Marta Radman, the tour will highlight how art reflects and shapes social change, while the Oktogon space will be explored as a symbolic venue of openness, dialogue, and future possibilities.
The workshop, designed by NMMU museum educator Lorena Šimić, will engage participants in group analysis of selected works, interpretation of themes and spatial relationships, and the expression of personal insights through short verbal and visual tasks.
The programme encourages personal reflection, active thinking, and the development of visual literacy. The combination of two venues – the Josip Račić Gallery and the Oktogon – symbolises the journey from artistic heritage toward new, yet-to-be-built visions of the future.
❗️Admission to both the Josip Račić Gallery and the NMMU Oktogon is free of charge for all programme participants on May 16.
❗️On International Museum Day, May 18, both the Josip Račić Gallery and the NMMU Oktogon will be open from 10 AM to 1 PM, with free entry.
