Sandra Halužan is a Croatian multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, vocal pedagogue, arranger and composer who comes from a musical family. She received her classical music education at the Vatroslav Lisinski (music theory and clarinet) and Blagoje Bersa (solo singing) schools. Since 2017, she has been involved in improvisation and attends jazz music seminars with internationally renowned musicians. Since 2018, she has been teaching individual contemporary, jazz and choral singing at the Ladislav Račić Music School (Rock Academy) in Zagreb. Two years ago, Halužan brought together a quartet consisting of Joe Kaplowitz (piano), Bojan Skočilić (double bass) and Antun Profeta (drums), and she sang and played saxophone, clarinet and Indian flute. In this quartet she composes and performs jazz arrangements of autochthonous Zagorje compositions, and original compositions in the autochthonous Zagorje language. In 2022, she is preparing her first album “Vu plavem” (Geenger Records), which includes 9 autochthonous Zagorje songs from the 1900s and later, which Sandra arranged in a new jazz / blues style, and one original song. The songs are about a man from Zagorje, the way of life on the hills of Zagorje more than a hundred years ago, the hardships of farmers, surviving the war, leaving and returning to their roots and ancestors, universal love, and the eternal search for the essence of life.
Bojan Skočilić has been playing bass guitar since he was twelve, and he started learning double bass in the 3rd grade of high school, after which he enrolled in music school to study classical music, majoring in double bass. After having finished the second grade, he enrolled at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, which he completed in 2018 with great success. He has collaborated on several projects as a studio and live musician including the Zagreb Philharmonic, HRT Symphony Orchestra, JazzIstra Orchestra, Miro Kadoić Quintet, Bruno Mičetić Quintet, Leon Brenko, Joe Kaplowitz and many others. As a studio musician, he has been nominated several times for the Porin Music Award.
