As part of the centenary commemoration of death of the paintress Aurélia de Souza, one of the most prominent personalities of Portuguese art at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the Institute of Art History (IHA), NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCSH), the Soares dos Reis National Museum (MNSR), Friends of the Soares dos Reis National Museum Association – Círculo Dr. José de Figueiredo and the Municipality of Matosinhos are organising, from 13 to 15 April, at the Matosinhos City Hall and the Soares dos Reis National Museum Auditorium in Porto, an international seminar that thematises the role of female artists from the aforementioned period. Dajana Vlaisavljević, the NMMU museum consultant and head of the Collection of 19th/20th Century Painting from 1898 to 1918, will give a lecture on “Slava Raškaj – The First Croatian Paintress” and represent the National Museum of Modern Art at this important three-day academic conference that will assemble around thirty speakers.
