On 16 January, the National Museum of Modern Art presented an exhibition titled “Frano Missia - Paintings and Prints 1956 – 1980” at the Josip Račić Gallery, commemorating the centenary of the artist’s birth. In addition to the introductory address delivered by Branko Franceschi, the director of the National Museum of Modern Art, the creative body of work of this academic painter, who resided and worked in Split, New York, and Paris, was presented to the audience by Dalibor Prančević, PhD, the curator of the exhibition and the writer of the artist’s bilingual monograph “Frano Missia – Itinerant Painter: Chronoscript of an Artistic Journey” from 2019, published by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split and the Museum of the City of Split. The exhibition opening was attended by Jelena Missia, who announced a retrospective of her late husband’s work in the summer of 2024 in his native Split, where he died in 2018 at the age of 94.
The exhibition of Frano Missia, currently on display at the Josip Račić Gallery, features 15 of the artist’s works executed in mixed media on canvas or tempera on paper, created between 1956 and 1966 in Split and Paris. Additionally, it includes two prints created by Frano Missia in 1980 in New York using the material print technique. The cultural audience in Zagreb has the opportunity to view this exhibition until 11 February 2024.
