The project Artists on Artists – A Visual Panopticon, from the series of phenomenological exhibitions at the National Museum of Modern Art, presents a hundred or so paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures and medals in which our visual artists represent their colleagues, but also the wider cultural scene of their time. The exhibition follows the development of our visual modernity from the end of the 19th century to the present day and, in parallel, points to an intense mutual cooperation as the basis of every true creation… – said Lada Bošnjak Velagić, the author of the exhibition concept and set-up, at the opening, and continued – Mutual portraits of the artists demonstrate the formative importance that friendship and love, but also mentorship, patronage and broader social support represent for the creators and creativity. The guests were greeted by the NMMU Director Branko Franceschi who gave opening remarks. Laura Topolovšek, assistant head at the City Office for Culture, International Relations and Civil Society attended the event as an envoy of the Mayor of Zagreb.
The exhibition is on display at the NMMU until 13 November 2022, and is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue in Croatian and English languages, with a foreword by art historian Lada Bošnjak Velagić. The catalogue is designed by Ana Zubić.
