From 10 February to 6 March, the National Museum of Modern Art presents, in the Josip Račić Gallery, the exhibition Aftermath by the contemporary Croatian painter Fedor Fischer. Based on the concept of curator Romina Peritz, the exhibition will showcase three works in mixed media – two diptychs and one triptych. Fedor Fischer’s latest works, collected under the title Aftermath, represent a continuation of his Collapse series from 2017, and were created especially for this exhibition in the Račić Gallery. The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue with a foreword by Romina Peritz.

Relying on previous art movements and oeuvres of individual artists he considers important, Fischer proved once again in Aftermath that, by reaching for periods and movements which had their life span in art history, such as Art Informel or Abstract Expressionism that his new paintings are associated with, today’s contemporary artists can and do create new, original works of art. So, while it may seem to us that everything has already been seen, in the “aftermath”, in his confrontation with the consequences of the crisis, Fischer shows the opposite – that there are no boundaries, no set limits. In the new beginning, anything goes. (Romina Peritz)
